The Spectacular Vancouver Cherry Blossom Trees (Pics & Video!)

This time of year is so incredibly beautiful in Vancouver. 😀  It’s Cherry Blossom Tree Season! Pretty pink blossoms bloom for about 2 weeks in April, and the city celebrates this during the annual Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival. The beautiful trees looks like pink, puffy clouds of cotton candy or popcorn, and they can be seen in several places throughout the Vancouver area.

The Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival was founded in 2005 by Linda Poole, its executive director, to commemorate the cherry trees given by Japan to the City of Vancouver. So far, Japan has given Vancouver 37,000 trees!
In the 1930s, the mayors of Kobe and Yokohama, Japan, gifted Vancouver with 500 cherry trees—it was their way of thanking Vancouver for honouring Japanese-Canadians who fought in World War I.
In 1958, Japan gifted more cherry trees to celebrate the friendship between Canada and Japan. Thanks Japan!!! 😀

During the festival, people locate, photograph and report blooming cherry trees, plus there’s lotsa other cool stuff going on!
