My Baby Bird Rescue

The house I’ve been living in for the last 10 years has a beautiful back yard area because of the big, huge maple tree and the beautiful green hedges. Every Spring I am excited because I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE animals (especially birds!) and every year a pair of  Robin Red-Breast birds build a nest beside my house, in the hedges along the fence that border mine & my neighbour’s property. It’s so wonderful to watch the babies grow and within a short period of time, (usually 6 weeks) I will usually find a little baby bird (or 2 or 3) in my backyard that has fallen out of the nest and can’t fly yet.

Last week I was mortified when my I came home on a Sunday afternoon to see that my new neighbour  had chopped down half of the huge Dogwood tree in his front yard, 🙁 had chopped down the HUGE 75 year old maple tree 🙁 and was in the midst of chopping down all the hedges that separate our yards. 🙁

I ran up to him , yelling for him to stop because of the bird’s nest inside the hedges.

I was shocked to learn that the city of Vancouver will allow people to chop down fully grown, healthy trees for no reason other than someone being lazy! “I don’t have time to clean up all the leaves.” my new neighbour said to me.  (WTF?!?) I’m so sad that people can destroy nature like that. 🙁

Fortunately he did stop, and the three baby birds are getting old enough to jump out of the nest now. I came home today to find a baby bird in my back yard again, for the second time. So, I decided to take pics before I put him back in his nest. Soooooo cute!
